Franklin County is seeking an Assistant Public Defender to provide competent legal representation for a wide range of criminal defendants and related civil matters. The role requires a Juris Doctorate and active Pennsylvania Bar admission or eligibility.

You will interview witnesses, prepare motions, represent clients at hearings, and collaborate with various agencies. Travel to trial sites may be required; background in Spanish translation is a plus.

• Juris Doctorate degree, licensed and admitted to Pennsylvania Bar or have taken Pennsylvania bar examination.
• Knowledge of criminal and civil law and procedures.
• Ability to interview, investigate, and prepare for hearings and trials.

Mansioni

• Investigates assigned cases, interviews witnesses, subpoenas witnesses and conducts research for pre-trial hearings and trials.
• Counsels clients.
• Prepares and files motions, briefs and other legal documents.
• Visits mental hospitals, jails and state facilities for detained clients.
• Represents client at pre-trial hearings, arraignments, trials and post-conviction hearings.
• Prepares post-trial motions and appellate briefs.
• Legal research for cases and trials.
• Negotiates plea-bargains with District Attorney.
• Uses computer for docketing, letters and reports.
• Interacts with police, internal departments and public.
• Translates Spanish for personnel as needed.
