Position Requirements and Job Responsibilities
This position requires working irregular hours, split shifts, weekends, holidays, as well as working after designated regular hours for special assignments or emergencies.
Performs journey-level professional work in support of the agency's public activities, events, projects, and/or programs, such as planning and coordinating media content for Public Relations, Rail Operations, and the intranet site, assisting with special events and tour planning, or organizing employee appreciation activities.

Key Responsibilities
- Disseminates press releases, speeches, information, promotion packages, articles, and letters.
- Writes announcements for service disruptions and manages service alerts/advisories on Metro's website and social media channels.
- Utilizes social media to promote Metro services and partnerships.
- Responds to media requests and calls from reporters and news agencies.
- Contributes to articles for internal and external blogs.
- Coordinates production and distribution of press kits and promotional materials.
- Coordinates with internal and external personnel for television features and on-air promotions.
- May perform video photography and short video production.
- Assembles and distributes media clips to management.
- Coordinates technical aspects for intranet content.
- Organizes employee information and appreciation activities.
- Collects and analyzes departmental information for final products.
- May translate materials into other languages.
- Ensures compliance with EEO policies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Combination of education and experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, English, or related field.
- One year of relevant experience in media relations, communications, journalism, or marketing.
Additional Requirements
- Valid California Class C Driver License or alternative transportation method.
- Ability to read, write, and translate in Spanish may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Office 365 and diagramming software.
- Experience supporting public events for government/public agencies.
- Experience providing customer service.
- Ability to work in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of public relations theories, laws, and regulations.
- Skills in media relations, information assessment, problem-solving, and effective communication.
- Ability to prepare reports, analyze data, meet deadlines, and represent Metro publicly.
