Job summary

The Maryland Public Service Commission is seeking an Inspector to enforce safety standards for for-hire passenger carriers in Maryland. You will inspect vehicles and records to verify compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and educate carriers on safety requirements.

This role requires certification with the Maryland State Police and participation in joint safety initiatives, with duties including form preparation and review of vehicle inspections and preventive maintenance programs.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent required.
• Minimum four years' experience in repair/maintenance of gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles or in vehicle inspections.
• Various substitutions allowed for education/experience as described in notes 1-4.

Responsibilities

• Inspect for-hire passenger vehicles to ensure compliance with Maryland laws and regulations.
• Inspect carriers' records to evaluate preventive maintenance and hours-of-service monitoring.
• Educate carriers on Federal and State safety requirements.
• Remain certified with Maryland State Police to perform safety inspections and prepare related forms; join safety initiatives (Strike Force, MCSAP).
