Responsibilities

  • Inspect for-hire passenger carrying vehicles to ensure compliance with Maryland and federal regulations.
  • Inspect carriers' records to assess effectiveness of preventive maintenance programs and hours-of-service monitoring.
  • Educate carriers on safety requirements and standards.
  • Remain current and certified by the Maryland State Police to perform safety inspections and prepare forms/memoranda on vehicle safety; participate in joint safety initiatives.
  • Participate in joint safety initiatives such as the National Passenger Carrier Strike Force, roadside safety enforcement, and periodic motor coach investigations as part of MCSAP.
