Job summary

The New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is recruiting for one Stationary Engineer who will operate, maintain and repair building systems in city facilities, ensuring reliable service.

A valid High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer license issued by the NYC Department of Buildings must be maintained for the duration of employment. This position is open to qualified 55-a entrants; residency is not required. Hours are Monday–Friday, 7:00am–3:00pm.

Qualifications

• A valid license for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

• Operates, maintains and adjusts boilers, furnaces, engines, pumps, heat exchangers, generators, motors, chillers, cooling towers, and related equipment in public buildings and municipal facilities.
• Make periodic inspections and perform preventive maintenance.
• Take responsible charge of a watch and direct subordinate personnel.
• Operate consoles in control rooms and prepare requisitions for materials and parts.
• Read meters and logs, keep records, and report findings.
• Supervise compliance with inspection procedures for high‑pressure boilers.
