Job summary

County of Hawai‘i is seeking a permanent full-time professional to direct and coordinate building code programs, permits, inspections, and design for public buildings and facilities. The role includes policy development, budget monitoring, and coordinating with other agencies to ensure safety and compliance.

The position requires a civil/architectural engineering or related degree with six years of professional experience and two years of supervisory responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, structural, electrical, or mechanical engineering or architecture.
  • Six years of registered professional civil, structural, electrical or mechanical engineering, or architectural work experience.
  • Two years supervising or coordinating the work of professional engineers or architects on major projects.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate the division's programs related to building codes, permits, inspections, and design of public facilities.
  • Review, formulate, and implement division policies and procedures.
  • Prepare, justify, and monitor the division budget.
  • Oversee enforcement of building, plumbing, and electrical codes and conduct related trainings.
  • Attend hearings and meetings to present testimony and resolve code interpretations.
