Job summary

The Oregon Department of Human Services is hiring a Public Benefits Specialist to support Oregonians through eligibility determinations, assessments, and referrals. This in-person role is based in The Dalles and involves interviewing clients and updating case narratives.

You will work with ODHS, OHA, and DELC programs, ensuring accurate determinations while aligning with equity and service standards. The position is full-time and benefits from an extensive package.

Qualifications

• One year of experience at the Human Services Specialist 1 level with the State of Oregon.
• Two years of experience working with the public and interpreting policies.
• An associate degree in Behavioral Science, Social Science or related field with six months of public service experience.
• Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform eligibility determinations and updates for ODHS, OHA, and DELC programs.
• Interview applicants in person and by phone to gather information for services.
• Assess client strengths and needs and connect to resources and programs.
• Update narrative reports and document conclusions.
