Job summary

The State of Hawaiʻi seeks an Eligibility Worker I trainee for the Benefit, Employment and Support Services Division (BESSD) in Kona/Captain Cook. You will learn to determine eligibility for public assistance programs and support clients' needs.

As an entry level trainee, you will be trained in philosophy, goals and procedures of public assistance, and you will perform related duties as assigned while ensuring compliance with State and Federal requirements.

Qualifications

• High level verbal skills and ability to read, comprehend and apply directions.
• Three years of public contact work requiring information and policy explanation.
• Basic mathematical computations including percentages and averages.
• High school diploma or equivalent acceptable for qualification.

Responsibilities

• Receive training in and apply Federal and State public assistance policies.
• Determine initial and continuing eligibility for public assistance programs.
• Explain rules and assist applicants in completing the process; perform related duties.
