Job summary

Fairfield County, Ohio is seeking an Eligibility Referral Specialist to determine initial eligibility for public assistance programs and maintain communication with clients for continued eligibility.

Under direct supervision, the role involves interviewing clients, collecting verifications, explaining program rights, and ensuring required documents are signed and understood. Training and collaboration with staff are expected.

Qualifications

• One year of experience as an Eligibility Referral Specialist 1.
• Or two years of experience as a Unit Support Worker 2.
• Undergraduate major core coursework in behavioral science, social science, or education along with interviewing/typing prerequisites.
• Two years of technical education in behavioral or social science with related skills.
• Two courses or one year of experience in behavioral/social science, customer service techniques, and business math/English.

Responsibilities

• Determines applicant’s initial eligibility for Public Assistance programs (e.g., TANF/OWF, Medicaid, SNAP/Food Assistance, Child Care).
• Interviews customers to determine ongoing eligibility via phone or face-to-face; issues forms and requests verifications; processes paperwork and documents case.
• Makes appropriate referrals to other community/state agencies for additional assistance.
• Attends conferences, workshops, training sessions and staff meetings related to Public Assistance operations.
