Job summary

M Social Sunnyvale, part of Millennium Hotels & Resorts, is hiring a Public Area Attendant to maintain the hotel’s lobbies, corridors and guest-facing spaces. You’ll clean, sanitize, replenish supplies, and ensure a welcoming, pristine environment for every guest from arrival to departure.

About the Role:

As our Public Area Attendant, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and overall presentation of the hotel's public spaces. Your work ensures that every guest experiences a clean, inviting, and well-maintained environment from the moment they arrive until the time they depart.

What You’ll Be Doing

Public Area Cleaning

• Clean and maintain hotel lobbies, corridors, elevators, restrooms, meeting spaces, fitness center, offices, and other public areas
• Vacuum, sweep, mop, dust, polish, and sanitize all assigned areas
• Clean windows, mirrors, glass doors, furniture, fixtures, and decorative surfaces
• Empty trash and recycling receptacles and replace liners as needed
• Maintain exterior entrances and other designated outdoor areas to hotel standards

Appearance & Quality

• Conduct routine inspections of public areas to ensure cleanliness and presentation standards are maintained
• Replenish guest supplies in public restrooms and common areas
• Report maintenance issues, damaged furnishings, or safety hazards promptly
• Ensure all areas remain clean and guest-ready throughout the day

Guest Service

• Greet guests with a friendly and professional demeanor
• Respond promptly to guest requests or direct guests to the appropriate department
• Maintain a courteous, helpful attitude while working in guest-facing areas
• Assist in creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for all visitors

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all OSHA guidelines, hotel safety procedures, and chemical handling protocols
• Safely operate cleaning equipment and machinery
• Properly store cleaning supplies and equipment after each shift
• Report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately
• Follow lost-and-found procedures and maintain guest confidentiality

Team Collaboration

• Work closely with Housekeeping, Engineering, Front Office, Food & Beverage, and Banquets to maintain hotel appearance
• Assist Room Attendants and Housepersons when operational needs require
• Communicate effectively regarding cleaning priorities and maintenance concerns
• Support special events, meetings, and high-traffic periods by maintaining cleanliness throughout the property

Inventory & Equipment

• Maintain cleaning carts and equipment in clean, organized, and safe working condition
• Monitor supply levels and notify supervisors when replenishment is needed
• Properly use floor care equipment, vacuums, extractors, and other housekeeping tools
• Assist with deep cleaning projects and seasonal cleaning schedules

• Passion for hospitality and delivering exceptional guest service
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness
• Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
• Positive attitude and dependable work ethic
• Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts

Technical / Role-Specific Requirements

• Previous housekeeping, janitorial, or custodial experience preferred but not required
• Knowledge of commercial cleaning techniques, chemicals, and equipment is a plus
• Ability to safely operate floor care equipment and cleaning machinery
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Basic English communication skills; bilingual abilities are a plus

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in a hotel, resort, or commercial facility preferred
• Experience maintaining high-traffic public spaces is highly desirable
• Familiarity with hospitality cleanliness standards is a plus

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
• Frequently bend, kneel, reach, push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to push cleaning carts and operate floor care equipment
• Comfortable performing repetitive physical tasks in both indoor and outdoor environments

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered
