About ElectriCity
ElectriCity is a national initiative created by the International Code Council (ICC) and the Independent Alliance of the Electrical Industry to promote modern, code-compliant electrical infrastructure and strengthen electrical safety in communities across the United States. The program supports local governments in advancing safety, resilience, and modernization by adopting best-in-class electrical codes, investing in trained inspection personnel, and building community confidence in infrastructure development.
Position Overview
ElectriCity is seeking a passionate, relationship-oriented Municipal Lobbyist to lead advocacy efforts promoting the program to municipal officials nationwide. This individual will educate local officials, advocate for electrical safety, and build support for investing in trained inspection personnel who ensure proper electrical installation and code compliance.
This is a remote position requiring 30–50% domestic travel, and candidates must live within 45 minutes of a major airport. The Municipal Lobbyist reports directly to the CEO and must submit weekly written activity reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead lobbying and relationship-building with municipal officials, promoting the adoption of ElectriCity’s framework for electrical safety and modernization.
- Educate code officials, city councils, and building departments on the value of well-trained electrical inspectors and code enforcement personnel.
- Communicate how trained inspectors contribute to safe, code-compliant installations and long-term infrastructure reliability.
- Confidently make public presentation in front of audiences large and small
Policy Advancement
- Advocate for the adoption and enforcement of modern electrical codes consistent with building and construction standards that promote electrical safety.
- Provide municipalities with technical and policy guidance tailored to their local needs and infrastructure goals.
- Support the creation IAEI chapters that will continue to provide programs that prioritize inspector training and ongoing professional development.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent ElectriCity at municipal meetings, trade association events, industry conferences, and public forums.
- Build coalitions and partnerships with local officials, stakeholders, partner organizations, building code professionals, and inspection staff.
Reporting & Communication
- Submit clear, actionable weekly written activity reports to the CEO outlining meetings, outcomes, policy developments, and progress metrics.
- Works with IAEI marketing staff to develop persuasive materials including policy briefs, presentations, and case studies showcasing the impact of trained inspection personnel on electrical safety.

- Knowledgeable – Familiar with electrical codes, inspection processes, and the role of local governance in safety enforcement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- At least 5 years of experience in sales, government relations, public affairs, or municipal lobbying.
- Proven ability to influence local policy decisions and build long-term stakeholder relationships.
- Strong understanding of municipal structures, building departments, and inspection processes.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Must live within 45 minutes of a major U.S. airport and be willing to travel 30–50% of the time.
- Must provide weekly written activity reports to the CEO.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to gain familiarity with ICC electrical codes, NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), and electrical inspection standards.
- Experience working in or with municipal governments, building departments, or code enforcement agencies.
- Background in safety-related policy initiatives and construction inspection.
