Job summary

Herkimer County Community College seeks an experienced, student-centered Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) educator and clinician with contemporary clinical expertise to join the PTA program as a full-time faculty member. The faculty member will contribute to classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction, student advising, curriculum development, and accreditation activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a health-related, science, education, rehabilitation, exercise science, or closely related field, plus a minimum of 15 graduate credits in a relevant discipline; OR a master's degree or higher in a relevant discipline.
• Current, active, unencumbered New York State license as a Physical Therapist (PT) or Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA), as appropriate to assigned responsibilities, and compliance with applicable New York State practice requirements.
• Minimum of three years of full-time or equivalent post-licensure clinical practice as a Physical Therapist (PT) or Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA).
• Contemporary expertise in the content areas assigned for teaching.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, clinical instruction, student supervision, and/or evaluation of student learning.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, coordinate, and deliver engaging instruction in assigned PTA courses across classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings.
• Develop and maintain syllabi, instructional materials, laboratory activities, assignments, examinations, and other learning experiences aligned with course and program outcomes.
• Integrate contemporary, evidence-based physical therapy practice, clinical reasoning, active learning, professional behaviors, and interprofessional perspectives.
• Evaluate student learning using appropriate, valid, reliable, and equitable methods; provide timely feedback, remediation, and academic support.
• Advise and mentor students; support professional identity, ethical practice, communication, cultural responsiveness, retention, progression, and successful transition to entry-level practice.
