Position Overview

The Residential Youth Counselor is responsible for the daily operations of the housing program and providing direct care to residents during 12-hour shifts. The role involves creating a safe, affirming environment, supporting residents' needs, and overseeing site functions. Candidates should be organized, independent problem-solvers, and effective communicators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and homelike environment through regular site walk-throughs and daily chores.
  • De-escalate conflicts and monitor resident interactions.
  • Provide individual and group support, facilitate activities, and supervise meals in the Emergency Housing program.
  • Apply trauma-informed care practices and document services accurately.
  • Maintain communication with supervisors and care teams, and attend mandatory meetings and supervision sessions.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience working with adolescents or young adults; knowledge of LGBTQ+ and homeless youth needs is a plus.
  • Strong communication, empathy, problem-solving, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, remain alert during shifts, and handle emergencies calmly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; familiarity with crisis management tools.
Schedule

Part-Time, 3 days per week: 7 am-3 pm, 3 pm-11 pm, 11 pm-7 am

This is an entry-level, part-time position within the non-profit sector, focused on serving LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness.
