Job summary

FedEx is seeking a part-time Yard Switcher in Illinois to move trailers between yards and doors, and to assist with loading and unloading packages. You will communicate with management to coordinate movements, document actions, and perform safety inspections in a fast-paced yard environment.

Responsibilities include handling packages, sorting by labels, and using hand-held scanners. A valid driver’s license and DOT file are required, with six months of related experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a DOT file.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions and safety methods.
• Ability to discern numbers and information to sort packages correctly.
• Six months of experience as a package handler or switcher/CDL operator preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform trailer switches by hooking and moving trailers between yard and doors.
• Communicate with management to coordinate trailer movements.
• Document trailer moves using Yard Management System or switcher cards.
• Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections on switcher equipment.
• Demonstrate yard switching safety procedures and processes.
• Handle packages by hand using appropriate lifting and carrying techniques.
• Load and unload packages from vehicles, trailers, and conveyors; sort by scanning labels and numbers.
