Job summary

The City of The Colony is seeking a part-time Recreation Leader to support the Senior Center’s daily operations and programming. You will assist patrons, help with registrations using Amilia software, and ensure a clean, welcoming environment during events and activities.

You will work with a team to deliver high-quality customer service, manage schedules, and participate in special events while maintaining safety and cleanliness standards at the center.

Job description

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Center Supervisor, the Recreation Leader is responsible for the daily operational duties at the Center. This position is responsible for assisting patrons, maintaining a clean appearance at the center, and being knowledgeable of all programs and activities. This position is responsible for providing the highest level of customer service in all personal interactions with customers.

  • Assist in oversight and implementation of Senior Center programs, activities, classes, and rentals.
  • Provide Senior Center patrons with the best possible customer service by promptly answering telephones, managing customer requests/concerns, and assisting patron’s needs.
  • Assist Senior Center Supervisor with Senior Center's special events, major projects and fundraisers.
  • Communicates effectively and in a courteous manner with the customers and staff in person, in writing, via email or telephone.
  • Must have flexible schedule to be able to work days, evenings, weekends, holidays (as necessary) and city special events.
  • Perform daily activity set up/clean up, maintenance, upkeep, and routine cleaning of facility.
  • Using department software,register patrons for facility memberships and programs.
  • Assist supervisor with other administrative duties and projects as assigned.
  • Ability to carry, push, pull, lift, or hold up to 50 lbs. of equipment or furniture.
  • May be required to work in extreme weather conditions for activities or events.
  • Sits for extended periods of time at desk using computer.
  • Ability to perform other duties as assigned.
  • This position will be scheduled to work an average of 15 – 19 hours per week.
  • Ability to use effective and courteous verbal and written communication skills with staff and public, in writing, via email or telephone.
  • Ability to use good judgement in handling customer requests, altercations and emergency situations.
  • Ability to be creative, a self-starter, work with minimal supervision, and show effective leadership skills.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems, software, and copier.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Amilia registration software and other miscellaneous software programs.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid Texas drivers license.
  • Recreation and/or Gerontology background preferred.
  • CPR/1 Aid certification or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
