Primary Purpose
To provide fast, easy, flexible, and friendly service to our customers through the achievement of Food Lion customer service standards. To be friendly, courteous, and cooperative with other store associates. Responsible for assisting the Customer Service Manager and the Assistant Customer Service Manager in maintaining standards according to Front End Standard Practice Manual, maximizing sales through excellent customer service.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Smile and provide prompt, accurate, and friendly service while engaging customers to create a positive shopping experience
- Greet each customer and use his or her name whenever possible
- Unload customers’ groceries from cart to belt, grouping cold items together for ease of bagging
- Check the bottom of every cart and under all baby seats for items before completing an order
- Follow correct bagging procedures for the appropriate use of bags by type
- Scan customers' orders and handle the payment transaction per standard practice
- Avoid personal conversations with other associates when customers are present
- Handle cash, checks, coupons, gift cards, partner cards, food stamps, and WIC vouchers following procedures
- Follow procedures for refunds and error correction
- Maintain accurate cash control
- Perform overrides as needed
- Assist customers needing help, such as taking their order to their car
- Maintain alertness and call for assistance when needed to meet service standards
- Check prices quickly and accurately
- Be courteous and helpful to other associates
- Wear the Food Lion uniform with apron, name badge, and maintain a neat appearance
- Retrieve shopping carts from parking lot and cart corrals using the tether strap
- Keep the work station and front end area clean and organized
- Report register malfunctions and ensure MVP savings center KIOSK is functioning properly
- Adhere to all company policies and safety guidelines
- Report unsafe conditions or maintenance issues
- Complete required computer-based training and courses
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Effective communication and customer service skills
- Willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical requirements
- Ability to perform cashier and service center duties
- Must meet minimum age requirements
- Physical ability to perform job tasks, with or without accommodations
Physical Requirements
- Use of computers and communication systems
- Repetitive hand and arm motions
- Bend, lift (up to 50 lbs.), push/pull (up to 75 lbs.)
- Stand and walk frequently
- Handle various substances related to cleaning and food products
- Visual ability to check IDs and written documents
