RiseMe in Layton, Utah, is seeking a versatile recreation instructor to plan and lead instructional programs across sports, music, and performing arts. You’ll teach beginner to advanced skills, ensure safety, and support program quality.

You will promote the city’s mission, work with participants, and collaborate with staff and partners to deliver engaging classes and performances, while maintaining a welcoming environment for all ages.

Qualifications

• Education and experience: basic knowledge of sport, music, or performing arts; six months’ experience in youth instruction or coaching.
• Knowledge, skills, and abilities: develop class content, instruct participants, demonstrate techniques, maintain safety, communicate effectively.
• Special qualifications: must be 18+, first aid/CPR/AED within 3 months, valid driver’s license preferred, teaching or coaching certification or related degree, specific sport certifications as applicable.

Job description

GENERAL PURPOSE

Performs a variety of technical and advanced duties as needed to assure participant safety and appropriate program skill instruction. Responsible for the instruction and safety of participants registered in the instructional based recreational programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Promotes and follows the City's Mission Statement, values, and expectations.

Plans, organizes, and conducts recreation instructional classes and programs, such as cross country, pickleball, tennis, track and field, music, community band, and other instructional programs.

Provides beginning to advanced level instruction on sport specific skills, musical skills, performance techniques, rules, strategies, and other skills appropriate to the program.

Assists in public relations by interacting with facility users including participants, spectators, staff, officials, school representatives, performers, etc. in a kind and professional manner.

Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Education and Experience:
   1. Basic knowledge of sport, music, performing arts, or other program-related skills.
   2. Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform duties with at least six months experience related to youth group instruction, teaching, directing, or coaching.
2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
   1. Working knowledge of the methods and techniques to develop class content appropriate to the course description and level.
   2. Be able to instruct participants on sport, music, performing arts or other program related skills and methods; explain proper techniques, demonstrate movements and skills, and teach appropriate skills to allow participant growth, development, and advancement. Maintain an alertness and awareness of participant activities and safety.
   3. Ability to plan, organize, and develop training curriculum; demonstrate proper technique; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.
   4. For music and performing arts programs, ability to lead rehearsals, provide instruction, prepare participants for performances, and work with individuals of varying skill levels.
3. Special Qualifications:
   1. Must be 18 years of age
   2. Must have (or obtain) first aid, AED, and CPR certification within 3 months of hire
   3. Driver's license preferred
   4. Current teaching certificate, coaching certificate, or related degree/certification.
   5. Sport specific certification or endorsement by a national, state or reputable governing organization such as USA Track and Field, USA Pickleball, United Tennis Association, Utah Youth Soccer Organization, National Federation of High School Sports Certification, USA Softball Certification, USSSA Certification, etc.
   6. Instructor level is determined based on relevant years of experience and demonstrated expertise.

The band will meet on Friday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
