Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Supervise after-school programs, senior programs, and summer day camps.
  • Plan, direct, and implement daily program activities and events.
  • Register participants using recreation software; reconcile funds and deposits.
  • Maintain attendance, registration, payments, and timecards; ensure forms are complete.
  • Communicate policies to participants and parents; enforce discipline policies.
  • Assist with marketing and promotion of programs; maintain supplies.
  • Work indoors with occasional outdoor activities; interact with children, families, and volunteers.

Job description

Under occasional supervision, the PT/ Recreation Coordinator is responsible for supervising and implementing after-school, senior, and summer camp programs at the Recreation Center. This position involves planning daily activities, supervising program staff, maintaining accurate attendance and financial records, and ensuring the safety of all participants. The PT/ Recreation Coordinator supports the promotion of programs and events and acts as a liaison between the recreation center and the public.

  • Supervises staff for after-school programs, senior programs, and summer day camps.
  • Oversees the daily care, supervision, and safety of children in all youth programs.
  • Plans, directs, and implements daily program activities, special events, and seasonal events.
  • Using recreation registration software to register participants.
  • Reconciling funds and making deposits daily.
  • Maintains accurate records of program attendance, registration, payments, and timecards.
  • Ensures all registration forms and documentation are received and complete.
  • Communicates program policies and behavioral expectations to participants and parents.
  • Implements the department’s discipline policy and communicates with parents regarding behavioral issues.
  • Supports marketing and promotion efforts for all recreational programs.
  • Maintains appropriate supplies, including snacks, craft materials, and equipment.
  • Assists children with homework, resolves conflicts, and fosters a nurturing, inclusive environment.
  • Monitors customer behavior and enforces compliance with all facility and program policies.
  • Maintains bulletin boards and assists with general communication to families.
  • Receives, reviews, prepares, and submits various reports such as attendance, incident, and registration documents.
  • Operates standard office and custodial equipment, including computers, telephones, copiers, and fax machines.
  • Interacts with a wide variety of individuals, including children, parents, volunteers, coworkers, service providers, and community groups.
  • Perform additional duties as required or requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong leadership and supervision skills, especially with youth.
  • Knowledge of recreational programming and child development.
  • Ability to plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate activities.
  • Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Proficient in record keeping, time management, and use of basic office technology.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures in recreational settings.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanor in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • One to Two years of experience in recreation programming or child-centered programs; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Valid South Carolina driver’s license required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience in recreation programming or child-centered programs; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • CPRP certificate
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Valid South Carolina driver’s license required.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed primarily indoors with occasional outdoor activities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs and participate in physical recreational activities.
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, and engaging with children for extended periods.
  • Exposure to noise, weather elements (when outdoors), and cleaning supplies may occur.
