Nexstar Media Group, Inc. in Los Angeles (KTLA) seeks a part-time Production Lighting Board Operator/Grip to support studio broadcasts, program and operate lighting, and manage teleprompter systems.
Requires 5–7 years in a major market, leadership ability, and familiarity with ENPS and ETC ION; union membership (IATSE) or willingness to join; shifts include mornings, nights, weekends and holidays.
PART-TIME PRODUCTION LIGHTING BOARD & TELEPROMPTER OPERATOR / GRIP DEPARTMENT: PRODUCTION REPORTS TO: PRODUCTION MANAGER DUTIES: Responsible for programming, operating, maintaining, and executing studio lighting production. Operates lighting control console and programming of lighting. Experience in install, hang, focus and circuits of lighting equipment a must. Should have experience with teleprompter systems and news production operating systems. Perform all lighting cue checks before and after shows and adjust as required. Replace, adjust, and fix studio lighting fixtures. Oversee and coordinate studio lighting maintenance, repair and troubleshoot. Contributes to all areas of studio support operations and maintaining a safe workspace. Including storage systems, supplies inventory, set maintenance, props, lighting, fire aisles, identifying and reporting trip hazards, and maintaining a safe workspace. Work with the Stage Management team to maintain accurate and up to date stage marks. Assist as needed in all props/grip functions on live broadcasts. This position has a direct impact on the quality of broadcast presentation. Attention to detail and ability to facilitate professional lighting design a must.
REQUIREMENTS: Minimum 5-7 years lighting experience in a major market. Successful candidates must demonstrate leadership ability and a proven track record in lighting and teleprompter operation. Must have good organization and communication skills. Experience required in the familiarization and basic knowledge of newsroom operations and production processes. Should be well versed in the operation of a wide variety of lighting instruments and PC based lighting control consoles, most specifically ETC ION. Knowledgeable in all areas of video and lighting with the ability to troubleshoot problems as they arise. Working knowledge of news operating systems including ENPS a plus. Computer skills should also include Microsoft Office/Outlook experience. Must be able to make quick decisions and give accurate instruction to stage personnel during live broadcasts.
