Job Summary
The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District is seeking a PT Instructor, Anthropology (Linguistic Anthropology) for Chabot College. Applicants will be expected to provide instruction in Linguistic Anthropology through Canvas (asynchronous format) during the fast-paced summer session.

Duties and Responsibilities

• 1. Have experience teaching college-level courses in Linguistic Anthropology;
• 2. Demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching;
• 3. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
• 4. Demonstrate ability to communicate well with students of diverse academic, ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds; immigration status; gender identities, sexual orientations; and students with disabilities;
• 5. Adapt instructional techniques to accommodate varied learning styles and abilities;
• 6. Be willing to teach day, evening, off-campus, and online classes, as needed;
• 7. Develop online courses, as needed;
• 8. Interact successfully with others, including Anthropology colleagues and other Social Science colleagues;
• 9. Maintain expertise in current teaching methods, discipline knowledge, and discipline-specific technologies;
• 10. Instruct lecture courses in Linguistic Anthropology, in accordance with credit course outlines approved by the Board of Trustees;
• 11. Assist students in achieving stated course objectives. Evaluate the progress of each student and notify students in need of counseling services and/or tutorial assistance. Track student learning outcomes and maintain records of student learning outcomes;
• 12. Participate in the departmental process of curriculum review, modification, and the assessment of student learning outcomes;
• 13. Assist the Division Dean in the preparation of required reports by providing requested information;
• 14. Attend various departmental, divisional, and campus-wide activities and events as required;
• 15. Perform other necessary duties as assigned by the Division Dean and as outlined in BoardPolicy.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s in anthropology or archaeology OR Bachelor’s in either of the above AND Master’s in sociology, biological sciences, forensic sciences, genetics or paleontology OR the equivalent.

Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices within the classroom.

• 8. Demonstrated leadership in developing curriculum for discipline-specific courses and/or programs;
• 9. Demonstrated leadership, ability, and desire to stay current in the field;
• 10. Interest in or knowledge of teaching online and other distance education courses;
• 11. Knowledge of language diversity, multilingualism, discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, or language revitalization;
• 12. Ability to incorporate culturally responsive approaches to the study of language, communication, and identity.
