The Quadrangle Club is the faculty and social club of the University of Chicago. Established in 1893, the Quadrangle Club has played and continues to be an important role in the intellectual fabric and life of the University of Chicago. Over the decades, the Club has been a place where Nobel laureates, faculty and numerous other scholars have hosted discussions about topics and ideas that have shaped the world. The Club is housed in a historic facility designed by Howard Van Doren Shaw.

Qualifications

BASIC FUNCTION: The Bartender will serve drinks and food at the bar.

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, & WORK EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three years bartending experience.
• One-year fine dining or high-end resort experience.
• Extensive liquor, beer, wine, and mixology knowledge.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Pleasant and helpful personality.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Compose and be knowledgeable of standard drinks and liquors or wines specific to restaurant bar.
2. Plan and maintain par levels for bar inventory. Prepare daily orders for bar items to maintain pars.
3. Responsible for cash handling and bank procedures as outlined by the Accounting Department.
4. Complete daily or weekly bar inventory for requisitioning needed bar products.
5. Ring up food orders through the Quad P.O.S system and process guest order billing in accordance to Quad STO’s
6. Expedite food orders from the kitchen as necessary.
7. Develop seasonal cocktails under the direction of the F&B manager.
8. Learn suggestive selling techniques and use them during services.
9. Maintain cleanliness of all workplace areas related to the bar.
10. Maintain a crisp uniform appearance.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Respond to any reasonable task assigned by supervisor or manager.
2. Greet guests entering the restaurant and assist with coats as needed.
3. Deliver cocktails to tables as necessary.
4. Assist other Food and Beverage departments as needed.

Compensation Range

The compensation for this position is $20.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
