Job summary

Cochise College in Douglas, AZ seeks an Associate Faculty in Music to teach voice and piano courses across the campus and in blended online formats. The role is specific to the Douglas Campus for face-to-face instruction blended with some online learning.

Master’s degree preferred in Music or related discipline, with 18 graduate hours in Voice, Choral, and Piano; alternatively a Music Bachelor’s with three years of vocal and three years of piano experience may be considered.

• OR Bachelor’s degree in Music and three years of vocal and three years of piano experience (can be concurrent).

Responsibilities

• Teaches assigned courses to enrolled students and manages a diverse population of students in a classroom and/or laboratory environment
• Develops, prepares, and implements lesson plans; conducts pre- and post-assessment of students; evaluates, assesses, and plans for students’ educational and social needs
• Collaborates with other faculty and staff in the assessment of teaching strategies and the effectiveness of the instructional program to help promote a culture of continuous improvement
• Maintains student records, statistics, and/or other pertinent information as required by the college and the department
• Resolves issues relevant to the area of responsibility and scope of authority, referring more difficult or complex problems to the appropriate Department Chair, Dean, or other College official
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Position Summary:

Associate Faculty provides an invaluable service to the College and our students by providing a quality learning experience of their profession in our classrooms, laboratories, and studios. Instruction is provided throughout Cochise County via various media. This position is specific to our Douglas Campus for face-to-face instruction blended with some online learning.

Compensation: $925 per equated credit unit

Duties and Responsibilities:

Education and Experience Requirements:

Master’s degree, preferred in Music or related discipline but not required, AND (required) 18 graduate hours in Voice, Choral and Piano from an institution accredited by an institutional accrediting body of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education

OR Bachelor’s degree in Music from an institution accredited by an institutional accrediting body of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education and three (3) years of work or teaching experience in vocal performance & three (3) years of work or teaching experience in piano performance (can be concurrent)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures

Knowledge of trends, developments, and new technologies affecting the Music program

Knowledge of how to assist students of diverse cultures and backgrounds to improve and master their musical skills

Knowledge of research-based adult learning principles

Knowledge of developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and instructional approaches

Skill in using authentic assessment to evaluate students’ needs and progress

Skill with current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications

Ability to instruct students in multiple skills and techniques around voice performance

Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner

Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations

Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with attention to detail

Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment

Ability to analyze, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems either through the department chair or dean or by using independent judgment and decision-making

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students, and the public

Work Environment:

Work is performed in a classroom, laboratory, office, or online setting under limited supervision. Evening or weekend work may be required. Participation at the end-of-semester concert, which is typically off-site and not during the regularly scheduled class time, is mandatory.

Physical Requirements:

Essential functions of this position require lifting, manual dexterity, and the ability to communicate.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting the majority of the time with some walking and standing required

Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, and adaptability. Creative problem-solving skills are also important.
