Job summary

Guadalupe Regional Medical Center is seeking a PRN Patient Access Clerk to support patient registration, insurance verification, and co-pay collection. The role includes order entry, activation of registrations, and handling admissions while coordinating with hospital staff.

Responsibilities include facilitating authorizations for hospital admissions, data collection, and maintaining compliant records. Prior registration experience and Spanish language skills are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Two years experience in patient registration or closely related field preferred.
  • Spanish speaking preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use personal computers including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Register patients face-to-face and collect/validate information, requisition orders and services, verify insurance, screen for medical necessity, and collect co-pays.
  • Enter orders, activate registrations, and report admissions and transfers; call for authorizations for admissions.
  • Maintain professional interactions with patients, families, physicians and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Patient Access.

Scope of Responsibility

This position is responsible for patient-facing registration and associated taskswhich include information collection and validation,requisitioning of orders and services,insurance verification, medical necessity screening, and collection of co-payments and associated paperwork. Additionally, this position will perform order entry, activate registrations, report admissions and transfers,calling for authorizations for all hospital admissions and anyother duties as assigned.

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Training and Experience
  • Two years experience in patient registration or closely related field preferred. Hospital patient registration or physician office scheduling/patient registration experience preferred, or bachelors/associate degree
  • Spanish speaking preferred
  • Working knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks with attention to detail, handle urgent tasks and exercise good independent judgment when necessary
  • Ability to use personal computers including knowledge of Microsoft office products
  • Possess the ability to deal tactfully and harmoniously with customers, both internal and external, including but not limited to: coworkers, patients, patients family members, physicians, physician office staff and insurance company representatives
