Job summary

Lansing Community College seeks a Part-Time Academic Professional Tutor in Social Science & Humanities. The role focuses on tutoring and mentoring students to improve learning outcomes and completion rates. On-campus assignments may occur Fall, Spring, and Summer, including evenings and weekends, to best serve student needs.

Regular on-campus presence is required; pay is based on the PT Salary Schedule, with up to 30 hours per week during the academic year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science & Humanities or education equivalent.
• Demonstrated experience in tutoring, supplemental instruction, learning assistant, teaching assistant, academic coaching, or teaching.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Available to work on campus a minimum of 12 hours up to 30 hours per week throughout the academic year, including evening and weekend assignments.

Responsibilities

• Provide learning support to students with proactive tutoring and mentoring.
• Support student success outcomes including retention and completion.
• Engage in tutoring sessions on campus during Fall, Spring, and Summer; evening and weekend slots.
• Participate in departmental training, tutoring development, and peer reviews.

The Part-Time Academic Professional Tutor is responsible for providing learning support to students with proactive tutoring and mentoring throughout their enrollment at Lansing Community College. Tutoring will focus on learning outcomes for student success including retention and completion. On campus work assignments may be scheduled during Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters, with evening and weekend assignments during the Fall and Spring semesters to best serve student needs.

Professional Tutors will participate in departmental training, tutor training, professional development activities, mentoring, and annual peer reviews. Professional Tutors may be a liaison for academic programs in assigned subject areas and/or career communities. In all duties this position must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students and colleagues, in a team-based environment, seeking continuous improvement and be fully committed to the mission, values, and community college philosophy of Lansing Community College.

Regular on campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Any flexible work schedules and/or hybrid work schedules approved by the College are subject to change based on the needs of the LCC community.

LCC policy requires all LCC employees to be residents of the State of Michigan and to perform all work (with limited exceptions) within the State of Michigan.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or education equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in the field(s) of: Social Science & Humanities (e.g., Sociology, Psychology, Religion, History, Education, Criminal Justice, American Sign Language, etc.).
• Demonstrated experience in one of the following areas: Tutoring, supplemental instruction, learning assistant, teaching assistant, academic coaching, teaching, or training.
• Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Available to work on campus a minimum of 12 hours up to 30 hours per week throughout the academic year, including evening and weekend assignments Fall and Spring semesters.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree or higher Degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
• College-level tutoring experience, supplemental instruction, learning assistant, teaching assistant, academic coaching, or teaching experience.
• Multi-disciplinary academic background or experience.
• Tutor Certification or Teacher Certification.
• Teaching Online, Virtual Instruction Certification or equivalent demonstrated experience.
