Job summary

Lansing Community College is seeking a Part-Time Academic Professional - Tutor in Computer Science to provide learning support and tutoring to students throughout their enrollment. The role includes mentoring, participation in training, and engagement with academic programs while maintaining a commitment to student success.

The position requires on-campus work with possible evening and weekend assignments during Fall and Spring, and a schedule aligned with the PT salary schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or education equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in the field(s) of Computer Science, or related field.
• Demonstrated experience in tutoring, supplemental instruction, learning assistant, teaching assistant, academic coaching, teaching, or training.
• Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Available to work on campus a minimum of 12 hours up to 30 hours per week throughout the academic year, including evening and weekend assignments Fall and Spring semesters.

Responsibilities

• Provide learning support to students with proactive tutoring and mentoring.
• Participate in departmental training, tutor training, professional development activities, mentoring, and annual peer reviews.
• Liaise for academic programs in assigned subject areas and/or career communities.
• Demonstrate ability to work with a diverse population in a team-based environment.

The Part-Time Academic Professional Tutor is responsible for providing learning support to students with proactive tutoring and mentoring throughout their enrollment at Lansing Community College. Tutoring will focus on learning outcomes for student success including retention and completion. On campus work assignments may be scheduled during Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters, with evening and weekend assignments during the Fall and Spring semesters to best serve student needs. PT Tutors will participate in departmental training, tutor training, professional development activities, mentoring, and annual peer reviews. Professional Tutors may be a liaison for academic programs in assigned subject areas and/or career communities. In all duties this position must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students and colleagues, in a team-based environment, seeking continuous improvement and be fully committed to the mission, values, and community college philosophy of Lansing Community College.

Regular on campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Any flexible work schedules and/or hybrid work schedules approved by the College are subject to change based on the needs of the LCC community.

Required Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree or higher Degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
• College-level tutoring experience, supplemental instruction, learning assistant, teaching assistant, or academic coaching, or teaching experience.
• Multi-disciplinary academic background or experience.
• Tutor Certification or Teacher Certification.
• Teaching Online, Virtual Instruction Certification or equivalent demonstrated experience.
