Job summary

StarCare Specialty Health System in Texas is seeking a Psychosocial Assessor-Associate within the Local Mental Health Authority Department. You will perform diagnostic evaluations, complete CANS/ANSA assessments, and document outcomes to determine service eligibility and care levels.

Job description

Are you working on clinical hours towards licensure (LPC, LMFT, LCSW)? Do you want the opportunity to have your supervision costs covered? StarCare Specialty Health System is in search of a dynamic provisionally licensed clinician to fill the position of Psychosocial Assessor-Associate in the Local Mental Health Authority Department.

What is a Local Mental Health Authority (LMHA):

Local Mental Health Authorities serve as the point of entry for publicly funded, privately funded, or unfunded mental health services for people who are assessed with mental illness in Texas. The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) requires each LMHA to evaluate the mental health needs of communities in their local service area and plan, develop policy, coordinate services, and use resources to address those needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Completes diagnostic evaluation to determine service eligibility and level of care (LOC) for children, adolescents, and adults to include preliminary diagnosis, linking to appropriate services and/or community resource referrals.
  • Completes Child and Adolescent Needs Strengths Assessment (CANS) to establish a LOC, as applicable.
  • Completes the Adult Needs and Strengths Assessment (ANSA) to establish a LOC, as applicable.
  • Completes all documentation correctly and within the established timeframes.
  • Attend meetings, training sessions, staffing sessions, etc.
  • Assists supervisor and other Center staff with special projects and/or assignments as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Schedule:

This is a full-time/non-exempt position scheduled Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm, with flexibility to meet the needs of the department.

While employed at StarCare and maintaining good standing, this position is eligible to receive clinical supervision in accordance with the Human Resources Policy and Procedure on Clinical Supervision. This supervision supports employees working toward licensure as a:

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC),
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

Clinical supervision will be provided in alignment with applicable state licensing board requirements and StarCare’s internal guidelines to ensure professional development and compliance with licensure standards.

Qualifications:
Educational:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a human services field, such as sociology, psychology, etc. with applicable provisional license (LPC-A, LMFT Associate, or LMSW working towards LCSW).
Preferred Experience:
  • Clinical experience in the treatment of persons with mental illness.
Skills & Abilities:
Required:
  • Knowledge of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5).
  • Knowledge of mental illness and substance abuse disorders.
  • Knowledge of clinical skills in evaluation and crisis intervention.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work closely with multiple departments at the same time.
  • Ability to assess accurately without personal biases.
  • Must have strong interviewing and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact with diverse individuals.
  • Ability and training (if required) to competently administer tests and measures.
  • Ability to accurately document information obtained from interviews, tests, records, or reference materials.
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with other employees, management, state employees, and the public.
  • Knowledge and skill in operating standard office equipment (phone, copier, etc.) and personal computer/laptop, including Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge and experience with Electronic Health Records.
Preferred:
  • Experience in the psychiatric field or utilization review.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric terminology and psychopharmacology.
  • Certified in CANS/ANSA.
Additional Requirements:
  • Must pass a pre-hire drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must have a Texas driver's license, liability auto insurance,and be insurable under the Agency's insurance.
  • Must maintain current provisional licensure.
