Job summary

StarCare Specialty Health System (StarCare) is seeking a full-time SRCH Psychiatric Provider to join its Inpatient Hospital team. The SRCH Psychiatric Provider serves as a vital member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, delivering high-quality psychiatric care to both forensic and non-forensic patients within an inpatient hospital setting. This role is responsible for conducting comprehensive mental health assessments, performing history and physical examinations, providing psychiatric evaluation and treatment, delivering patient education and medication counseling, and offering program-specific clinical consultations. Additional responsibilities include reviewing medical records for accuracy and completeness, supporting the planning and coordination of patient care, and collaborating closely with physicians, nursing staff, direct care providers, program personnel, and correctional staff to ensure effective treatment and continuity of care. The position requires strong clinical judgment, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to maintaining accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and forensic standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric care within an inpatient setting, including conducting psychiatric evaluations, mental status examinations, diagnostic assessments, treatment planning, medication management, and ongoing follow-up care.
  • Deliver patient education and medication counseling to promote understanding of diagnoses, treatment plans, prescribed medications, and self-management strategies.
  • Assess, monitor, document, and evaluate patient symptoms, behaviors, treatment responses, and overall clinical progress.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment recommendations and interventions based on patients' emotional, behavioral, psychological, and social needs.
  • Assemble, analyze, and interpret clinical, medical, and psychosocial information to support effective treatment planning, clinical decision-making, and continuity of care.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely medical and behavioral health records in accordance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, program staff, correctional staff, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
  • Communicate clinical information effectively, both verbally and in writing, to patients, families, interdisciplinary team members, and other authorized stakeholders.
  • Exercise independent clinical judgment in making patient care, administrative, and procedural decisions consistent with established professional standards and facility policies.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with interdisciplinary team members, community resources, external agencies, and healthcare partners.
  • Utilize electronic health records (EHRs), databases, Microsoft Office applications, and other technology platforms to document, retrieve, analyze, and communicate information.
  • Effectively organize, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Complete all required documentation, treatment plans, consultations, reports, and clinical records accurately and within established timeframes.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable standards and regulations, including those established by The Joint Commission, the Texas Board of Nursing, the Texas Administrative Code, and other governing authorities.
  • Participate in quality improvement and programmatic activities, including Peer Review, Quality Assurance (QA) audits, Medical Executive Committee meetings, and other assigned committees or initiatives.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours.
  • Ensure all required training and credentials are current and compliant with Center, federal, state, and local regulations, in addition to StarCare policies and procedures.
  • Complete special departmental projects and other responsibilities with similar skill and work conditions as assigned.
  • Support all activities in alignment with StarCare’s mission, values, and operational goals.
Schedule:

This is a full-time, on-site, position scheduled Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, with flexibility to meet the needs of the department.

Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program with current certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA), or current licensure in the State of Texas as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a mental health, psychiatric, or behavioral health setting required.
  • Experience working in correctional, forensic, inpatient, or other institutional healthcare settings preferred.
  • Must have a current Texas driver’s license and be insurable under the Center’s insurance.
  • Must pass all required pre-employment and annual screenings applicable to the position or services provided, as required by law, regulation, or agency policy, which may include criminal background, nursing registry, MVR, and drug screening based on applicable requirements.
