Job description

Psychology Adjunct / Substitute Instructor (College Credit)

Part‑time/temporary faculty position within the San Diego Community College District. Faculty assignments will be made for the City, Mesa, or Miramar campuses or for continuing education centers. Applicants should reside within commuting distance of San Diego.

Responsibilities

• Teach lecture and lab courses according to established curriculum and course outlines.
• Maintain professional conduct and ethics.
• Keep current knowledge in the subject matter areas.
• Be available to students outside of class and fulfill professional responsibilities of part‑time faculty.
• Teach all scheduled classes and maintain accurate records.
• Create an environment that encourages teaching, learning, and free discussion of ideas.

Minimum Qualifications

Degrees must be from regionally accredited institutions.

• Master’s degree in Psychology; OR
• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology AND Master’s degree in Counseling, Sociology, Statistics, Neuroscience, or Social Work; OR
• California Community College Instructor Credential in Psychology (valid for life); OR
• Equivalent qualifications.

Desired Qualifications

• Foreign degree holders: coursework evaluated by a NACES or ACEI member organization and evaluation submitted with application.
• Possession of a California Community College Instructor Credential in Psychology.

Employment Conditions

• Salary placement contingent upon receipt of official transcripts and verifications of prior work experience.
• Background check, tuberculosis exam, live scan, and proof of eligibility to work required before employment.

Adjunct Pool

Qualified applicants will be added to the district’s adjunct pool for potential assignments in fall, spring, or summer semesters. The pool is maintained for approximately one year, after which applicants are notified to re‑apply if they wish to remain eligible.
