Psychologist (Remote)

The psychologist performs Medical Disability Examinations (MDE) for veterans filing disability claims for mental health conditions (e.g., PTSD, Depression, Anxiety) through the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) as part of the Compensation and Pension Program. These comprehensive mental health exams include assessments and medical opinions but do not involve treatment.

Key Roles
  • Standard outpatient assessments/evaluations
  • Psychological/Neuropsychological Testing service requests
  • Participate in peer consultations, staff meetings, and trainings; ensure determinations comply with VA guidelines; perform other duties as required by the reviewer’s manager
  • Conduct Non-MD clinical reviews, including requests for psychological or neuropsychological testing
Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive mental health examinations (MDE) for conditions such as PTSD, Depression, MST, Anxiety, Eating Disorders
  • Write medical opinions as the subject matter expert for mental health claims
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and VA rules and procedures
  • Note: C&P mental health examinations are one-time, no-treatment assessments
Required Qualifications
  • Licensed doctoral-level (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) Psychologist
  • Current license permitting full, independent practice without restrictions (may require obtaining additional state licenses)
  • At least 2 years of post-licensure experience
  • Computer proficiency with Windows OS, Outlook, Word, Teams, and Excel
  • Dedicated secure workspace and access to high-speed internet via cable/DSL at home
  • Graduated from an APA-accredited program
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience in performing C&P exams (training and support provided)
  • Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP)
  • ASPPB Certificate of Professional Qualification (CPQ)
  • Experience in managed care settings, peer reviews, and working with commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare lines of business
  • Knowledge of CPT and HCPCS codes
  • Clinical experience in higher levels of care, with children, adolescents, and substance abuse diagnoses
  • Experience with Evidence-Based Treatments
  • Advanced skills in Excel and Access databases
  • Strong organizational, time management, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Adaptability to a fast-paced, changing environment
