Health Advocates Network is seeking a licensed Psychologist in San Diego, CA to perform screenings, assessments, and treatment for inmates within a correctional health setting.

The role requires a Doctoral degree in Psychology, a valid license in good standing, and 2 years of clinical experience. Board eligibility for privileges and ICE clearance are noted; 8‑ or 12‑hour shifts may apply, full‑time contract.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in Psychology.
• Current, unrestricted license to practice psychology in state of practice (good standing).
• Two years of clinical experience, including one year in a comparable position.
• Valid driver's license.
• Primary Source Verification (PSV) copy if required by licensing board.
• Copies of required certifications (e.g., BLS, immunizations, TB test).

Responsibilities

• Conduct psychological screenings and assessments for inmates.
• Collaborate with psychiatrists, mental health staff, physicians, nurses, social workers for integrated care.
• Develop, implement, and adjust individual treatment plans.
• Perform rounds in housing areas to assess mental health needs.
• Provide counseling and crisis interventions as needed.

Shift Details:

• Full Time Schedules

• Some weekends may be required

• 8 or 12 hour shifts available depending on the facility

• Contract Position (flexible with shift availability is a plus)

• 8 weeks Full time Must be at least board eligible to qualify for privileges US Citizenship required for ICE clearance

Candidate must live 70 miles away from the facility.

Psychologist Duties & Responsibilities:

• The successful candidate should be able to perform ALL of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job performance requirements.

• Conducts psychological screenings and assessments based on review of available records, and clinical interviews with inmates.

• As part of a mental health team, confer with other clinical staff, e.g., psychiatrists, mental health service providers, physicians, nurses, social workers, in order to gather and provide information concerning patient psychological problems, to ensure treatment activities are well integrated, and patient care follow-through occurs.

• Provides treatment to inmates by developing, implementing, and modifying individual treatment plans based on evaluation of needs and level of functioning.

• Makes regular rounds in segregation or other confined housing areas to assess inmate adjustment and mental health treatment needs.

• Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of psychological counseling theory and techniques by way of treatments and activities used for individuals in caseload.

• Provides appropriate mental health assessments, counseling, and confrontation avoidance interventions to address the needs of inmates in crisis.

• Consults with psychiatry, mental health nursing, medical, educational, chaplain, security staff, and others, as applicable to gather information and understanding into the reasons for the escalation of problems behaviors and changes in mental health condition of inmates.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Doctoral degree in Psychology.

• Must possess a current, unrestricted license to practice psychology in the state where practice occurs.The license MUST be in good standing

• Must have two (2) years of clinical experience, which includes one year in a comparable position.

• A valid driver's license.

• Copy of current, completed Primary Source Verification (PSV) from the appropriate licensing board or verification agency, if required.

• Copy of all current required certifications and compliance documents (e.g., .BLS, N95 fit test, immunization records, TB test, or other client-specific requirements).
