Job summary

HAN Staff is seeking a licensed psychologist for a correctional facility in Leavenworth, KS. The role involves conducting screenings, developing treatment plans, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure informed patient care.

The position requires a Doctoral degree in Psychology, an active license in good standing, and at least two years of clinical experience. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and comply with PSV and other certifications.

  • Current unrestricted psychology license in the practicing state in good standing.
  • At least two years of clinical experience, including one year in a comparable role.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Copy of PSV from licensing board and required certifications/compliance documents (e.g., BLS, N95, TB test).

Responsibilities

  • Perform psychological screenings and assessments of inmates.
  • Collaborate with mental health team and other staff to integrate care.
  • Develop and modify individual treatment plans.
  • Conduct rounds in segregation to assess mental health needs.
  • Provide mental health assessments, counseling, and crisis interventions.
  • Consult with psychiatry, nursing, physicians, chaplains, and security staff to understand issues.

Shift Details:

  • Full Time Schedules
  • Some weekends may be required
  • 8 or 12 hour shifts available depending on the facility
  • Contract Position (flexible with shift availability is a plus)
  • 6 month initial duration Full time Must be at least board eligible to qualify for privileges. US Citizenship required for ICE clearance - expedited clearance in place for new activation - candidates will be subject to thorough background & credit investigation for clearance ICE Clearance for this location takes 4-6 weeks from initiation.

Candidate must live 70 miles away from the facility.

Psychologist Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate should be able to perform ALL of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job performance requirements.
  • Conducts psychological screenings and assessments based on review of available records, and clinical interviews with inmates.
  • As part of a mental health team, confer with other clinical staff, e.g., psychiatrists, mental health service providers, physicians, nurses, social workers, in order to gather and provide information concerning patient psychological problems, to ensure treatment activities are well integrated, and patient care follow-through occurs.
  • Provides treatment to inmates by developing, implementing, and modifying individual treatment plans based on evaluation of needs and level of functioning.
  • Makes regular rounds in segregation or other confined housing areas to assess inmate adjustment and mental health treatment needs.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of psychological counseling theory and techniques by way of treatments and activities used for individuals in caseload.
  • Provides appropriate mental health assessments, counseling, and confrontation avoidance interventions to address the needs of inmates in crisis.
  • Consults with psychiatry, mental health, nursing, medical, educational, chaplain, security staff, and others, as applicable to gather information and understanding into the reasons for the escalation of problems behaviors and changes in mental health condition of inmates.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited college or university with a Doctoral degree in Psychology.
  • Must possess a current, unrestricted license to practice psychology in the state where practice occurs.The license MUST be in good standing
  • Must have two (2) years of clinical experience, which includes one year in a comparable position.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Copy of current, completed Primary Source Verification (PSV) from the appropriate licensing board or verification agency, if required.
  • Copy of all current required certifications and compliance documents (e.g., .BLS, N95 fit test, immunization records, TB test, or other client-specific requirements).
