Job summary

The City of Chesapeake seeks a qualified psychiatrist who has completed an accredited residency in psychiatry and holds or is eligible for the Virginia medical license and DEA registration. Board certification is preferred, and a Suboxone waiver within 12 months of hire is required.

A valid driving history meeting City standards is also necessary. Preference is given to candidates with experience in community mental health and substance use care, and with strong oral and written communication

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited medical school with completion of a 4-year residency in psychiatry.
• Current Virginia Board of Health Professions license and DEA registration.
• Board Certification in Psychiatry is preferred.
• Waiver to prescribe Suboxone must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
• Valid driver’s license with driving record compliant with City standards.

Responsibilities

• Excellent oral communications to interface with staff and clients; careful and precise language.
• Maintain and prepare clinical records, insurance, and other reimbursement forms for local, state, and federal agencies.
• Develop and document psychiatric/medical services using electronic medical records.
• Provide supervision based on prudent care and sound judgment.
