Job summary

State of Missouri is seeking a Psychiatrist for the Northwest Missouri Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center in St. Joseph. The role involves providing psychiatric and medical care to adult patients, conducting assessments, and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team.

The position may include on‑call duties for additional compensation; MO licensure and board eligibility are preferred. This is a full‑time on‑site opportunity with a strong focus on patient care and community health.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Providing psychiatric and medical care to adult patients.
• Admissions to NMPRC; performing medical and psychiatric assessments.
• Diagnosing psychiatric and other illnesses using DSM‑5; planning and prescribing treatments.
• Collaborating with nurse practitioners and other providers; managing pharmacological treatment.
• Provide individual and group psychotherapy as needed; interpret diagnostic studies.
• Act as collaborative practice physician and respond to emergencies; participate in committees.

What You’ll Do

• Providing psychiatric and medical care to adult patients
• These may include the following:
• Admissions to NMPRC
• Performing medical and psychiatric assessments
• Diagnosing of psychiatric and other illnesses of NMPRC patients using DSM‑5
• Planning, prescribing and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to manage pharmacological treatment of psychiatric disorder in the adult patient
• Planning, prescribing and collaborating with nurse practitioners and/or physical medicine provider to manage the treatment of medical disorders and conditions of adult patients with specialty consultation available either in‑house or using appropriate outside specialists
• Provide individual psychotherapy as needed for adult patients
• Provide group psychotherapy as needed for adult patients
• Requesting and interpreting of diagnostic laboratory studies and reports of adult patients
• Acting as a collaborative practice physician and working with a Nurse Practitioner
• An option to provide on‑call duties and services for NMPRC which may include weeknights, weekends, and/or holidays for additional compensation
• To provide coverage for other Medical Staff, as directed by the Medical Director
• To serve on committees of the Medical Staff, as requested
• To provide other administrative and patient care duties within the scope of your practice and as assigned
• Respond to and provide services during emergencies and natural disasters, as needed

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Knowledge of professional principles and practices of medicine and psychiatry, and of current theories and practices in the field of mental health
• Knowledge of medications and their effects on physical and psychological disorders
• Ability to provide court testimony regarding the status of patients’ psychological condition

Minimum Required Qualifications

• Licensure as a Psychiatrist in the State of Missouri

Preferred Qualifications

• Active Missouri license - We require candidates to possess an active Missouri physician’s license
• Board Eligible / Board Certified in Psychiatry
