Job summary

The Northwest Missouri Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center, part of the Department of Mental Health, in Saint Joseph, MO, is seeking an RN Supervisor. You will direct nursing services across a multi-ward unit, supervise RNs and staff, and ensure high-quality care within policy and safety standards.

Office hours are Monday–Friday 8:00am–4:30pm, with days off on Sat/Sun. A nursing degree and RN experience are required, with a competitive benefits package and pension offered by the State of Missouri.

• Master’s Degree in Nursing with 1+ years of RN experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with 2+ years of RN experience.
• Associate’s Degree in Nursing with 3+ years of RN experience.

Responsibilities

• Directs and evaluates nursing services in a multi-ward unit or facility-wide shift.
• Coordinates and oversees nursing care of patients with mental/physical illness.
• Directs and supervises RNs and staff; provides direct care coverage.
• Reviews assessments, diagnoses, and care plans; evaluates interventions.
• Conducts clinical rounds, monitors staff performance and safety.
• Supervises staff development and nursing training, evaluates performance.
• Works independently with minimal supervision; adheres to policies.

Job duties may include but not limited to;

• Directs and evaluates the nursing services provided in a multi-ward unit or program, or serves as the facility-wide nursing supervisor on an assigned shift.
• Coordinates, directs, evaluates, and participates in the nursing care of persons with mental or physical illness and/or developmental or physical disabilities.
• Directs and supervises the work of Registered Nurses and other staff and provide direct care coverage as warranted
• Reviews nursing assessments, diagnoses, and care plans and evaluates effectiveness of nursing interventions.
• Conducts clinical rounds inclusive of observations of staff performance, policy implementation, cleanliness and safety of the environment, evidence of a therapeutic environment, implement programming as scheduled, and engagement of the patients.
• Supervises and collaborates with Staff Development in the training of nursing staff, direct care staff, and nursing students and evaluates performance.
• Works independently with minimum supervision; work is reviewed by supervisors for conformance with established policies and effectiveness of nursing procedures.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of a specialized area of professional nursing including related theory, practices, and standards. Ability to conduct nursing assessments, develop nursing diagnoses, and formulate short and long-term objectives and treatment plans. Ability to administer detailed therapeutic prescriptions and nursing interventions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients, and their family members.

Minimum Qualifications Required

• Master’s Degree in Nursing and 1+ years of professional experience as a Registered Nurse; OR
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and 2+ years of professional experience as a Registered Nurse; OR
• Associate’s Degree in Nursing and 3+ years of professional experience as a Registered Nurse
