Job summary

MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC seeks a Psychiatrist for multiple positions to provide outpatient psychiatric care within the hospital setting and participate in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

Required are an MD degree, ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency and CL psychiatry fellowship, plus DC medical license and board certification (or eligibility) in psychiatry and CL psychiatry.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or foreign equivalent.
• Completion of 48 months ABPM-recognized and ACGME-accredited Psychiatry Residency.
• 12 months ABPN-recognized and ACGME-accredited Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship.
• License to practice medicine in the District of Columbia.
• American Board Certification in Psychiatry and American Board Certification (or eligibility) in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.

Responsibilities

• Provide outpatient psychiatric care within the hospital setting, including admitting patients, performing examinations and evaluations, ordering tests, diagnosing, rounds, and discharge planning.
• Participate in the call schedule.
• Facilitate development of a comprehensive plan of care with patient, family, and multidisciplinary team.
• Prescribe medications and controlled substances in compliance with DC and federal rules.
• Coordinate family education with nursing staff and other resources.
• Receive outpatient referrals from Primary Care Center and other departments.
• Provide support and expert assessment to critical care medicine, internal medicine, and other specialists in overall care delivery.
• Maintain progress notes following established guidelines and sign medical records.

Job Duties

• Provide outpatient psychiatric care within the hospital setting, including admitting patients, performing psychiatric examinations and evaluations, ordering and conducting tests, diagnosing, performing hospital rounds, and planning for discharge.
• Participate in the call schedule.
• Facilitate coordination and development of a comprehensive, individualized plan of care in collaboration with the patient, family, and multidisciplinary team.
• Prescribe medications and controlled substances in compliance with DC and federal rules, regulations, and laws.
• Coordinate family education with nursing staff, ancillary staff, and other resources.
• Receive outpatient referrals from Primary Care Center and/or other departments.
• Provide support and expert assessment to critical care medicine, internal medicine, primary care, and other specialist physicians in the overall delivery of care.
• Maintain progress notes using established guidelines and follow all HIMS policies for maintenance and signing of medical records.
