MedStar Health in Washington, DC seeks an Inpatient Psychiatrist to join MedStar Washington Hospital Center’s Psychiatry Services. The role focuses on adult inpatient care within a major academic medical center, with a collaborative multidisciplinary team and opportunities in education and research.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric evaluations, assessments, and medication management for adult inpatients
• Deliver direct clinical care to patients admitted to inpatient psychiatric services
• Provide psychiatric consultation and expert assessment to medical, surgical, critical care, and other specialty teams
• Participate in hospital rounds and develop individualized treatment plans
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including nursing, social work, case management, and advanced practice providers
• Participate in discharge planning and coordinate transitions of care
• Provide family education and support as appropriate
• Maintain accurate and timely medical records in accordance with hospital policies
• Participate in the inpatient psychiatry call schedule
• Participate in academic and educational activities through MedStar Health and its affiliated academic programs

About the Role

This position is primarily inpatient-focused, providing comprehensive psychiatric care to adult patients within the hospital setting. The psychiatrist will work closely with medical and surgical teams as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

You will join a well-established inpatient psychiatry and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry program at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a major academic medical center and teaching hospital in Washington, DC.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric evaluations, assessments, and medication management for adult inpatients
• Deliver direct clinical care to patients admitted to inpatient psychiatric services

Schedule & Call

Schedule

• Monday-Friday daytime schedule

Call Responsibilities

• 1 weeknight every 2 weeks(telephonic call only)
• 1 weekend every 8 weeks
  • One day is rounding only (physician may leave once patients are seen)
  • The other day includes rounding plus 24-hour telephonic call after leaving the hospital
• 1 holiday per year

Additional call opportunities may be available for those interested.

Call Responsibilities

• Participation in the inpatient psychiatry call schedule
• Weeknight and weekend call responsibilities as assigned
• Additional call opportunities may be available for those interested
