Qualifications

Responsibilities

Title: Psychiatrist

Supervisor: Medical Director

Job Summary

A Psychiatrist has extensive and specialized training and education that allows them to provide a range of healthcare services. They will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to patients, including diagnosing and treating illnesses, conducting routine med-checks, and working with the treating clinician to create an effective treatment plan. They are patient-focused and committed to delivering high-quality patient care, staying current with medical advancements, and working collaboratively with a team of healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and assessments to diagnose mental health conditions.
  • Assist in developing individualized treatment plans, including psychotherapy, medication management, and other interventions. Once treatment plans are reviewed, the psychiatrist must complete with signature.
  • Maintain a physical on-site presence at Pittsburgh locations (Fox Chapel and Upper St. Clair) to meet the 50% on-site threshold required by 55 Pa. Code Chapter 5200.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust medications as needed, ensuring patient safety and well-being.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate care as well as the treating clinician to discuss patient progress.
  • Provide formal clinical supervision and lead at least two clinical staff meetings per month, ensuring all supervision and consultations are thoroughly documented.
  • Actively participate in the establishment and oversight of treatment standards and prescribing practices.
  • Educate patients and families on mental health conditions, treatment options and medication compliance and provide resources when necessary.
  • All counter signatures provided within legal and ethical timeframes (Examples of counter signatures - Review/Complete short term disability forms when appropriate)
  • Review and complete prescription for ACT 106 cases at clinician’s request when necessary
  • Monitor patients’ progress, make necessary treatment adjustments, and document care in medical records.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in psychiatry, participating in continuing education and professional development.
  • Respond to mental health crises and provide support, guidance, or appropriate referrals.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and maintain a high standard of patient care.
  • Participate in Quality Management (QM) processes and Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) committee activities, including internal chart audits and reviewing and signing off on quality assurance plans and reports.
Qualifications
  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency program.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Psychiatry.
  • Valid medical license to practice in the state of Pennsylvania.
  • Must hold a current Drug Enforcement Administration registration to prescribe medications.
  • Strong knowledge of psychiatric principles, therapies, and medication management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to build strong patient relationships.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with EHR software.
  • Must pass all clearances including but not limited to criminal history and child abuse.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Subspecialty training (e.g., child and adolescent psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, addiction psychiatry).
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations.
  • Experience with crisis intervention and management.
