  • Evaluate abnormal lab studies, X-rays and other tests and prescribe treatment as necessary.
  • Evaluate patients with complex problems and refer to appropriate specialists when needed.
  • Work with clinic personnel on ongoing health education and preventative medicine.
  • Assist Clinical staff in quality assurance and peer review.
  • Maintain continuing medical education credits, focusing on Indian Health issues.
  • Keep medical license, DEA registration and CPR certification current.
  • Maintain standards of patient care and implement department policies.
  • Communicate problems involving personnel, medical staff, patients and families to the Clinic Manager.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Medical Director.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing or supervising psychiatric care to assigned patients.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • 1. Provide direct psychiatric services to program patients.
  • 2. Provide assistance in establishment, review and revision of Medical and Behavioral Health Department protocols, policies and procedures.
  • 3. Assist in establishing and maintaining professional relationship with ancillary medical, laboratory and pharmaceutical services within the community.
  • 4. Evaluate abnormal laboratory studies, X-rays and other tests and prescribe treatment as necessary.
  • 5. Evaluate patients with complex problems and refer to appropriate specialists if problem cannot be treated in-house.
  • 6. Work in conjunction with other Behavioral Health and Medical Clinic personnel in providing ongoing health education and information on preventative medicine.
  • 7. Assist in Clinical staff in quality assurance and peer review.
  • 9. Responsible for obtaining necessary continuing medical education credits. A significant portion of which should be specifically relevant to Indian Health issues.
  • 10. Keep medical license, DEA registration and CPR certification current.
  • 11. Maintains the standards of patient care and implements the policies and procedures of the Medical and Behavioral Health Department.
  • 12. Responsible for communicating problems identified involving personnel, medical and behavioral health staff, patients, families and the general public to the Clinic Manager.
  • 13. Other duties as assigned by Medical Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 1. Licensed California Psychiatrist (Board Certified preferred).
  • 2. Two (2) years clinical experience in direct delivery of psychiatric services.
  • 3. Sensitive to Indian culture and health needs.
  • 4. Current DEA registration.
  • 5. Current CPR card.
