Description:

GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:

Performs various patient care activities to care for the mentally and emotionally ill patient under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Maintains a therapeutic milieu, plans and conducts individual, group, and family therapeutic sessions, assists in basic nursing techniques, helps develop care plans, documents patient progress, and assists staff with agitated patients.

Position Details: This is a Part-Time 16 hr/wk position. Weekend/holiday availability is required.

Skills, Knowledge, Education and Experience:

  • Thorough knowledge and expertise in a behavioral health setting, normally acquired through a bachelor's degree in psychology or social work with two or more years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in a psychiatric facility or related setting preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification for Healthcare providers from AHA, ARC, or Military Training Network is required at hire, unless currently certified in ACLS and/or PALS.
  • Other certifications may be required as per the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.
  • Medical-surgical patient care or medical office experience preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrates understanding of the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Provides competent care for all age groups as applicable.
  • Maintains a safe environment and therapeutic milieu through good judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ensures accurate documentation of services and supplies.
  • Communicates effectively and follows directions from licensed staff.
  • Initiates tasks proactively within the psych tech role.
  • Participates in crisis situations, including safety interventions.
  • Educates patients on coping skills related to their treatment plans.
  • Reviews and documents treatment progress and education.
  • Provides supportive listening and models therapeutic behaviors.
  • Completes clinical documentation accurately and thoroughly.
  • Acts as a liaison between patients, families, and staff.
  • Receives and processes data appropriately.
  • Provides unit clerical support as needed.
  • Utilizes basic computer skills and office equipment.
