Job summary

Texas Children's is seeking a Psychiatric Technician to support patient safety in a fast-paced Behavioral Health unit. Under RN supervision, you will monitor patients at risk of harm, stay with the assigned patient, and assist in implementing individualized care plans.

Evening shifts 3p-11p; full and part-time options available. Prior behavioral health experience and BLS certification required; pediatric behavioral health experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year behavioral health experience in inpatient or outpatient setting.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology/sociology or related field preferred.
  • Crisis prevention certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct continual observation of patients requiring special precautions to ensure a safe environment.
  • Remain with the assigned patient at all times during their shift.
  • Perform direct observation of the patient and monitor for at-risk behavior.
  • Monitor for sharps and other contraband that can cause harm.
  • Assist the nurse in providing an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Assist in implementing individualized patient care plans.
  • Promote healthy coping through verbal support and behavior plan execution.
  • Assist the team through observation and communication about patients' status.
  • Maintain accountability for personal professional development.
  • Demonstrate teamwork, flexibility, and professional interpersonal skills.

Job description

We are searching for a Psychiatric Technician- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will ensure the safety of patients at risk of harm to self or others, under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) and Behavioral Health Support Team. Care will be delivered incorporating Family Centered Care in a cost-effective manner and is developmental and age-appropriate for the patient population.

We have the following shifts available:

Evenings 3p-11p (full and part time available)

Qualifications
  • HS Diploma or GED Required
  • 1 Year experience with Behavioral Health in an inpatient or outpatient setting required
  • BLS Certification (American Heart Associate Only) required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, or other related degree preferred
  • Pediatric Behavioral Health experience preferred
  • Crisis Prevention certification preferred
