Job summary

Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus is seeking a Psychiatric Technician to monitor and care for pediatric patients at risk, under RN supervision. The role emphasizes patient safety, observation, and collaboration with the Behavioral Health Support Team during night shifts 11p-7a.

Required: HS Diploma or GED, 1 year BH experience, BLS. Preferred: Bachelor's in psychology/sociology, pediatric BH experience, crisis prevention cert. Respiratory fit testing is required upon hire.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED required
• 1 year experience with Behavioral Health in inpatient/outpatient setting
• BLS Certification required
• Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, or related field preferred
• Pediatric Behavioral Health experience preferred
• Crisis Prevention certification preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide direct continual observation of patients requiring special precautions to ensure a safe environment
• Remain with the assigned patient at all times during their shift
• Perform direct observation of the patient and monitor for at-risk behavior
• Monitor for sharps and contraband that can cause harm
• Assist the nurse in providing a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff
• Assist in implementation of individualized patient care plan
• Promote healthy coping through verbal support and behavior plans
• Assist the patient care team through observation and communication about patient status
• Maintain accountability for personal development
• Demonstrate commitment to team, flexibility, professional interpersonal communication, and customer service skills

In this position, you will ensure the safety of patients at risk of harm to self or others, under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) and Behavioral Health Support Team. Care will be delivered incorporating Family Centered Care in a cost-effective manner and is developmental and age-appropriate for the patient population.

• Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, or other related degree preferred
• Pediatric Behavioral Health experience preferred
• Crisis Prevention certification preferred
