Job summary

Howard University Hospital seeks to hire a Psychiatric Technician to join a team dedicated to patient-centered care in Washington, DC. This is a Full-Time Day Shift position with an every other weekend requirement (7:30am-8pm).

The starting pay range is $19.00-$30.40 per hour, with actual offers based on experience. Responsibilities include assisting patients with activities of daily living, monitoring safety, reporting observations to RNs, and supporting therapeutic milieu activities under

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school.
• Minimum two years of college with psychology coursework.
• Graduation from an approved psychiatric or nursing technician training program.
• One or more years’ experience as a Clinical Associate, Nursing Assistant, Mental Health Technician or Psychiatric Technician.
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.

Responsibilities

• Provides for cleanliness, grooming, rest, nourishment and elimination as needed.
• Reports observations and pertinent information concerning patients to the Registered Nurse.
• Maintains a safe, therapeutic environment respecting patients' rights.
• Monitors patients for risks and reports observations to the responsible nurse.
• Participates in therapeutic milieu activities for assigned patients under supervision.
• Motivates patients to participate in daily activities and assists with activities therapy under supervision.
• Attends treatment planning and assists with admissions, transfers and discharges as needed.
• Observes patient behavior and identifies when safety concerns arise, notifying staff.
