Brief Description

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD (“The HARRIS CENTER”) is looking for a Psychiatric Technician to join our team! The Lead Psychiatric Technician works under the supervision of the Lead Nurse or other licensed nursing personnel to provide direct care services to patients at the Youth Diversion Center. The role also involves supervising staff and maintaining a safe environment for patients in crisis, supporting Nursing and Clinical Treatment teams. Delegated nursing tasks may be performed under supervision.

Your Role In Action

1. Promote a safe environment through rounds and searches, enabling patients to focus on recovery.
2. Assist with basic patient care and hygiene, observing progress for treatment adjustments.
3. Provide emergency assistance, including restraint and first aid, and report concerning behaviors.
4. Monitor and document patient behaviors, especially in seclusion or precautions.
5. Perform delegated duties such as vital signs and specimen collection.
6. Utilize Standard Precautions to prevent infection spread.
7. Respect patient rights, dignity, and privacy.
8. Engage with community, colleagues, and patients using trauma-informed principles.
9. Assist in scheduling, hiring, and training of staff.
10. Facilitate communication regarding patient needs.
11. Perform housekeeping duties when needed.
12. Demonstrate professionalism and serve as a role model.
13. Comply with policies, procedures, and documentation requirements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2+ years of direct care experience in psychiatric or behavioral healthcare preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Understanding of Standard Precautions and Infection Control.
• Knowledge of Handle with Care Crisis Intervention Techniques (HWC III).
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to coordinate care with the treatment team.

Additional Information
