Job Opportunity: Psychiatric Nurse at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital

In collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, we aim to be a top academic psychiatric care facility, dedicated to professional training and support.

We are seeking a dedicated Psychiatric Nurse to support the Integrated Health and Aging unit (IHAP 12th Floor) at our Oakland location. The IHAP program includes 42 beds for older adults experiencing psychiatric issues, often complicated by physical, social, and environmental factors.

This position involves day/evening rotations with 8- and 12-hour shifts.

Starting pay rate: $33.25 for GN level candidates, $34.75 for BSN holders. Rates may increase based on previous nursing experience.

Sign-on Bonus: Up to $15,000!

Responsibilities:

1. Perform nursing assessments and initial care plans within 8 hours of patient admission.
2. Orient and educate patients regarding hospitalization procedures.
3. Document all care in medical records according to policies.
4. Maintain current knowledge of medication policies, including side effects, dosages, and patient responses.
5. Administer medications safely and accurately, including transcription, administration, and documentation.
6. Demonstrate knowledge of DSM IV diagnoses through therapeutic interventions.
7. Manage crisis situations effectively using positive approaches.
8. Follow Nursing Standards, ANA Standards for Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing, and other relevant policies and regulations.
9. Perform point-of-care testing such as glucose monitoring, urinalysis, and Hemocults.
10. Carry out charge RN responsibilities competently.
11. Participate in program development and performance improvement activities.
12. Engage in interdisciplinary team activities, including treatment planning and staff meetings.
13. Maintain competency requirements and attend in-services annually.
14. Mentor students and new staff members.
15. Utilize up-to-date technology in patient care delivery.
