Job summary

UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for Psychiatry on a PRN night schedule. The role provides nursing care under supervision, focusing on behavioral health patients and multidisciplinary collaboration.

The position requires a nursing license in Texas, 1 year of relevant RN experience, and BSN preferred with BLS certification. Responsibilities include comprehensive assessments, care planning, interventions, and patient/family education.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved/accredited nursing program; able to read, write and communicate in English.
• Minimum 1 year RN experience in behavioral health; advanced roles may require more experience.
• Current Texas nursing licensure (NLC) and BLS certification from AHA or ARC.

Responsibilities

• Perform and document physical, psychosocial and emotional assessments considering age groups.
• Develop care plans with patient and family, using assessment findings and critical thinking.
• Identify and document nursing interventions; coordinate with the interdisciplinary team.
• Prioritize interventions; report changes in condition promptly; involve patient in care.
• Evaluate outcomes; modify plan as needed; document changes in a timely manner.
• Adhere to hospital policies and ANA standards; practice within Shared governance.
• Provide education to patients and families; assess understanding and document discharge plans.
• Orient and welcome patients and families; set goals with patient input; explain procedures.
• Advocate for resources; participate in budget and safety initiatives; support quality measures.
• Engage in peer evaluation and compliance; uphold patient safety and care standards.
