Job summary

Amedisys is seeking a highly skilled Behavioral Health RN to join our home health team in Opelika, Alabama. This full-time role requires 2 years of psych/behavioral health nursing experience and a current RN license.

Monday–Friday schedule with competitive pay and comprehensive benefits. You will perform initial evaluations, monitor mental and physical status, coordinate care, and educate patients and families.

Qualifications

• Current RN license, state-specific.
• One of: master's in mental health nursing/psychiatric specialty; or bachelor's in nursing with 1 year of psychiatric experience; or diploma/associate with 2 years of psychiatric experience.
• Experience within last 3–5 years or documented retraining/CEUs.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and liability insurance.

Responsibilities

• Performs initial nursing evaluation, including behavioral health/psychiatric needs.
• Observes and evaluates physical and mental status for complications and meds side effects.
• Identifies crisis indicators and suicidal ideation; adjust treatment as needed.
• Educates patient/caregiver on care, meds, safety, ADL, coping, and symptom management.
• Administers IM medications, performs lab draws and specimen collections.
• Acts as case manager coordinating care for patients as assigned.
• Completes documentation timely and accurately.
• Supervises LPNs and HHAs.
• Regularly communicates patient progress to the clinical manager and care team.

Responsibilities

• Performs initial nursing evaluation, including behavioral health/psychiatric nursing needs.
• Observes and evaluates the physical and mental status of the patient for complications and medication side effects.
• Maintains awareness for indicators in patients' behavior that call for change in the treatment modality (crisis, suicidal ideation) as well as other medical signs and symptoms.

Qualifications

• Current RN license, specific to the state(s) you are assigned to work. Must have one of the following to meet CMS requirements for psychiatric nursing in the home care setting:
  • An RN with a master's degree in a mental health nursing or psychiatric specialty. Must have nursing experience in an acute treatment unit or other psychiatric setting.
  • An RN with a bachelor's degree in nursing. Must have one year of recent nursing experience in an acute treatment unit or other psychiatric setting.
  • An RN with a diploma or an associate's degree in nursing. Must have two years of recent nursing experience in an acute treatment unit or other psychiatric setting.

Please note: Experience must have been within the last three to five years. If not, documentation must support psychiatric retraining or classes or CEUs to update psychiatric knowledge.

• Current CPR certification.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and liability insurance.
