Job summary

Amedisys is seeking a Psychiatric Registered Nurse to provide in‑home care in Omaha. This full‑time dayshift role focuses on adults and geriatric patients with behavioral health needs, delivering compassionate care where patients heal best — at home.

You will perform initial evaluations, monitor mental and physical status, coordinate care with the clinical team, teach patients and caregivers, administer IM medications, complete documentation on time, and supervise HHAs.

Qualifications

• Current RN license required.
• One of the CMS requirements for psychiatric nursing in home care must be met either by: master's in mental health nursing, or bachelor’s in nursing with at least one year in psychiatric settings, or diploma/associate with at least two years in psychiatric settings.
• CPR certification required.
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and liability insurance.

Responsibilities

• Performs initial nursing evaluation for behavioral health/psychiatric needs.
• Observes and evaluates patient mental and physical status for complications and medication side effects.
• Monitors indicators in patient behavior suggesting changes in treatment modality (crisis, suicidal ideation) and other medical signs.
• Educates patient/caregiver on care, medications, disease processes, safety, ADL, coping skills, and symptom management.
• Administers IM medications, performs lab draws and specimen collections.
• Acts as case manager coordinating care for assigned patients.
• Completes timely and accurate documentation.
• Supervises LPNs and HHAs.
• Communicates patient progress to the clinical manager, psychiatrist and care team.

• Instructs patient/caregiver in cognitive and technical aspects of care, medication regimes, disease processes, safety interventions, ADL care, coping skills, symptom management and other interventions.
• Administers IM medications, performs lab draws and specimen collections.
• Acts as a case manager in coordinating care for patients as assigned.
• Completes documentation timely and accurately.
• Supervises LPNs and HHAs.
• Regularly communicate patient progress to the clinical manager, psychiatrist and care team.

Qualifications

• Current RN license, specific to the state(s) you are assigned to work. Must have one of the following to meet CMS requirements for psychiatric nursing in the home care setting:
  • An RN with a master's degree in a mental health nursing or psychiatric specialty.
  • An RN with a bachelor's degree in nursing. Must have one year of recent nursing experience in an acute treatment unit or other psychiatric setting.
  • An RN with a diploma or an associate's degree in nursing. Must have two years of recent nursing experience in a acute treatment unit or other psychiatric setting.

Please note: Experience must have been within the last three to five years. If not, documentation must support psychiatric retraining or classes or CEUs to update psychiatric knowledge.

• Current CPR certification.
