Job summary

Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a Psychiatric Nursing Assistant I at Terrell State Hospital. The role involves direct patient care under a licensed nurse, with emphasis on safety, documentation, and therapeutic interaction to support recovery plans.

Applicants should have basic computer skills, CPR certification (or ability to obtain), and prefer six months of direct care experience. Fingerprinting, background checks, and drug screening are required.

Qualifications

• Six months of direct care experience is preferred.
• CPR certification or the ability to obtain CPR within 60 days.
• If transporting patients, must possess a valid Texas driver license within 90 days of hire.
• Applicants must pass fingerprint background check and pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Attend work regularly and adhere to scheduled shifts.
• Support individualized recovery plans and provide patient-centered care.
• Monitor vital signs and assist with medication administration under supervision.
• Promote safety and facilitate group activities and programs.
• Collaborate with the nursing team and report patient needs to the RN.
