Job description

RAMS BSARF is located in Western Addition / Japantown area; providing board and care plus behavioral health, psychiatric and nursing care to up to 33 adults with several mental illness and other medical issues. CAAP is located in the South of Market area, and RAMS provides behavioral health services to adults without dependents who receive General Assistance. Practice at the programs reflect and support the diverse cultures, languages, races and ethnicities of its clients, including immigrant and refugee families who are monolingual in an Asian & Pacific Islander or Russian language, or have limited English-speaking ability.

Within the context of a community mental health outpatient clinic, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner / Psychiatrist assumes medical responsibility for clients' psychiatric care and prescribing medications.

Essential Job Duties include, but are not limited to :

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, medication evaluations, and manage psychiatric care of assigned patients (e.g., provide follow up psychopharmacological treatment / management)
  • Coordinate with patient and multidisciplinary care providers regarding treatment planning, progress, and disposition
  • Order / obtain and monitor appropriate laboratory testing
  • Liaise / work collaboratively with other medical / clinical providers (both at RAMS or in the community) to coordinate patient care and review disposition
  • Maintain confidential medical / treatment and billing records / documentation for all services provided as well as medications, in accordance to requirements specified by agency's policies, clinical standards, & funding sources (including Medi-Cal, Medicare, SFDPH, etc.)
  • Provide consultation and crisis management support to the Officer of the Day, as needed
  • Participate in areas such as Program Utilization Review / Continuous Quality Assurance, peer reviews, procedural & clinical services meetings, report writing, and program development & review, as necessary
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Required Qualifications :

  • NP degree from an accredited medical or nursing school; or MD degree from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of a Nurse Practitioner psychiatry-specific training program; or completion of residence program for general psychiatry
  • Valid California Nurse Practitioner License & DEA Certificate; or MD and DEA certificate
  • Demonstrated clinical experience in working with individuals with serious and / or persistent mental health conditions, including those with co-occurring disorders (medical and / or substance use)
  • Demonstrated experience & knowledge / ability to independently assess, diagnose, generate comprehensive treatment plan, and carry out medication treatment and therapeutic interventions to the seriously mentally ill population

Other Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience providing medication management services to patients in a community mental health setting strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with community behavioral health systems of care in San Francisco, including the philosophy of care, levels of care for clinical services, and the delivery of such services, highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with the San Francisco community resources / services (may include health, mental health, substance abuse, vocational, housing, etc.), highly preferred.
  • Strong commitment to the philosophy, goals, & mission of RAMS in providing community-based, culturally competent, and consumer-guided mental health services to the community.
  • Commitment to engaging in professional development activities such as trainings, continuing education seminars, case conferences, and reviewing up-to-date material, etc., as related to treatment strategies for the population of Program Name.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively, function independently, and interact professionally with a diverse, multi-cultural, and interdisciplinary staff of all levels.
  • Applicants with ability to provide bilingual & culturally competent services in other language - specifically, Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish or Vietnamese - preferred (but not required) due to the needs of the populations served at the program.
