Job summary

Qualifications

  • MSN or DNP with PMHNP concentration and NY license.
  • Active NY RN license.
  • PMHNP-BC certification (ANCC).
  • DEA registration to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Minimum 1 year as PNP/PMHNP; pediatric experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive psychiatric evaluations including history, mental status, DSM-5-TR diagnosis and risk assessments.
  • Prescribes and manages medications including MOUD and withdrawal agents.
  • Conducts medication reconciliation and orders labs/tox studies to adjust treatment.
  • Collaborates with psychiatrists, RNs, social workers and peers to plan discharge and safety.
  • Participates in clinical rounds and safety planning for crisis dispositions.
  • Maintains accurate documentation in Avatar per OMH/OASAS and HIPAA rules.
  • Adheres to DEA, PMP/I-STOP and EPCS requirements for prescribing.
  • Educates patients and families on diagnoses, medications, harm reduction and overdose prevention.
  • Engages in QA/PI and ongoing professional education.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP)

SamaritanDaytopVillage is a leading human services organization in New York State serving over 38,000 New Yorkers annually across more than 60 locations through Transitional Housing, Community Based Services, and Residential and Outpatient programs. First Steps Intensive Crisis Stabilization Center (ICSC), operatedby SamaritanDaytopVillage in Rockland County, is a 24/7 program dually licensed by OMH and OASAS to provide rapid, short-term supportfor children ages 5+ and adultsin mental health or substance use crisis. Our multidisciplinary teamutilizesa trauma-informed, harm-reduction framework to stabilize individuals and connect them with long-term care while avoiding unnecessary emergency room visits.

We are seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide advanced psychiatric care, including evaluations, diagnoses, and medication management for individuals in crisis. Working within a 24/7 multidisciplinary team, you will manage integrated care for co-occurring disorders and provide essential interventions in an acute behavioral health setting. This role involves close collaboration with medical and clinical providers to deliver trauma-informed, recovery-oriented treatment. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated practitioner to apply high-level clinicalexpertiseto help patients navigate mental health and substance use emergencies.

Responsibilities
  • Performs comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including clinical history, mental status exams, DSM-5-TR diagnosis, and risk assessments
  • Prescribes and manages medications for psychiatric and addiction-related needs, including Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) and withdrawal management agents
  • Conducts medication reconciliation and orders laboratory or toxicology studies to interpret results and adjust treatment plans accordingly
  • Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team—including psychiatrists, RNs, social workers, and peer specialists—to develop individualized discharge and safety plans
  • Participates in clinical rounds and safety planning to ensure effective disposition decisions in a crisis setting
  • Maintainsaccurateandtimelydocumentation in the Electronic Health Record (Avatar) in compliance with OMH/OASAS regulations and HIPAA standards
  • Adheres to DEA, PMP/I-STOP, and EPCS requirements, including the review of controlled substance history prior to prescribing
  • Provides essential education to patients and familiesregardingdiagnoses, medications, harm reduction, and overdose prevention (including naloxone)
  • Engages in peer reviews, quality improvement initiatives (QA/PI), and ongoing professional continuing education
Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) with a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) concentration
  • Active, unrestricted New York State Registered Professional Nurse license
  • Active, unrestricted New York State Nurse Practitioner certification in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMHNP-BC) through ANCC
  • Active DEA registration with authority to prescribe buprenorphine and other controlled substances
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) or PMHNP preferred; new graduates with strong psychiatric nursing backgrounds considered
  • Experience with pediatric patients required
  • Experience in co-occurring disorders, crisis services, inpatient psychiatry, or emergency psychiatry strongly preferred
  • Current CPR/BLS certification; ACLS preferred
  • Advanced clinical knowledge of psychopharmacology, withdrawal management, and MOUD (Medications for Opioid Use Disorder)
  • Expert assessment skills for suicide risk, agitation, psychosis, and intoxication or withdrawal
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and harm-reduction clinical practices
  • Proficiencywith Electronic Health Records (Avatar preferred) and EPCS requirements
  • Excellent collaborative communication skills for working with physicians, nurses, and non-medical clinicians in a 24/7 crisis setting

Additional Information

This is a full-time exempt role with an annual salary of $150,000-$169,744 with a full benefits package. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 25 daysof paid time off, access to a retirement account with an employer to match, and tuition reimbursement.

This roleis located in Blauvelt, NY and has a schedule of Sunday-Tuesday 7am-7pm.
